春も夏も秋きれいです。There are some nice scenic spots and plenty of hiking trails with decent markings. If you are in a rush you can get some decent photographs of the landscape with about a 10 minute walk. Some of the photos I have posted are from higher up on the black course trail.

Lots of trails up into the mountains. Fairly well maintained, but some log steps on the trail have disintegrated, and leaf litter can make those steep spots a little tricky to navigate. The signs at the hiking spots show playgrounds, but there aren’t any now. There are a few restaurants but the food is mostly the same in all of them. Basted mochi, fish on a stick, or chicken on a stick, plus udon or soba (great flavor, really). Really gorgeous viewpoints at many places along all the trails. We went today (early November, 2017) and the leaves were really pretty. Looked like they would peak in about a week. Oh and look for the friendly little black and white cat on the west side trail. He made our kid’s day.

Visited 20,10,25. About 20 cars can be parked along R118. It's easy to stop when coming from the direction of Mito, but be careful when you come out because it stops in the forward direction. Yamatsuriyama is about 350m above sea level, but there is a drum bridge and a plaza on the middle, which is the best. I climbed up to the top of the mountain (although it is a bird trail), but there weren't many wild birds. There are many pine trees, autumn leaves, azaleas, and cherry blossoms. It's a small atmosphere. The view of the Kuji River and Suigun Line is not bad. The place is foggy so you may be able to see the sea of clouds. At the foot of the mountain, there are several shops that handle river fish.
