Onin War and Katsumoto Hosokawa's residence
The Onin War, which is said to be the beginning of the Warring States period, broke out in the first year of Onin (1467). Beginning with the New Year's battle in the spirit forest (around the precincts of the current spirit shrine), in May the western army with Yamana Sozen as the general and the eastern army with Hosokawa Katsumoto as the general fought a fierce battle centered on Tokyo. It was. The West and East Armies faced each other across Horikawa and Ogawa, but while the area around the residence of Sozen Yamana, which was the base of the West Army, remains the name of "Nishijin", Hosokawa of the East Army. Katsumoto's mansion is believed to have been in the northern area of Ogawa Children's Park, where this explanatory version is located.
In "Uesugimoto Rakuchu Rakugai Zoufu", which captures the scenery of Kyoto during the Warring States period, which was reconstructed after the Onin War, Mr. Hosokawa's mansion "Hosokawa-den" was seen from the east on the north side of Kamidachiuri-dori and the east side of Ogawa-dori. "Is a particularly large picture. Inside the mansion surrounded by the Tsukiji wall, many people are rushing to the eaves of the wood shingle buildings connected by the corridor. In addition, red and white plum blossoms are in full bloom in the garden with ponds and garden stones in the south, and waterfowl are playing. It is a scene where you can see the state of the mansion where Katsumoto Hosokawa lived in Imanishi.
It is speculated that the range of Hosokawa is
North side: Teranouchi-dori
South side: Kamidachiuri
West side: Aburanokoji-dori
East side: Ogawadori
It seems to be the area surrounded by.

It is usually full of gymnastics for children, young people and old people, but now it is empty in the corona, you can sit on any bench.
It is spacious and comfortable, but there are few playground equipment for small children.
On the north side of this park, there is an information board about the ruins of the residence of Katsumoto Hosokawa, who was the central figure of the East Army during the Onin Rebellion. It seems that the actual Hosokawa House was on the further north side of the park.
Despite that, there is a place name called Nishijin, but why is there no place name called Tojin? For more details, I would like you to read Yuichi Kureza's "Onin no Ran", but Yoshimi Ashikaga, who was a leaning member of the East Army, joined forces with Sozen Yamana to become the leader of the West Army and the "West Shogunate" appeared. Isn't it because it was a big event at the time astonishing ground?
It's not because the craftsmen who had escaped from the turmoil returned to this place after the turmoil and weaved the fabric, so that the Nishijin place name and local specialty were associated with each other and were remembered by people like a crockery. (In contrast, there were no local specialty products in the Tojin area).
Furthermore, it may be because Higashijin did not settle down because it was hard to say to Nishijin (all are personal opinions).
As an aside, cherry blossoms are beautiful in this park in March.
