Great walk in the forest, passing some remarkable giant trees dating back hundreds of years. Recommend!

A very beautiful forest trail that connects Kurama-dera to Kifune. A very relaxed walk and is shaded by tall trees. There are also some smaller shrines and temples along the way. A must go if you are around the area. Highly recommended.

We can see this place on the way from Kurama Dera to Kibune shrine. Many roots expose on the surface of the ground. It looks like wild road. Long time ago, when Yoshitsune, Japanese famous samurai worrier, was called "Ushiwakamaru" in his childhood, he trained his sword skill and footwork here. Here is historical records of "Genji" , which is one of the biggest samurai families in 10th century. You should wear proper clothes to climb a mountain. This place is a complete mountain. Do not put high heels, please.

You will pass several points enshrining deity in small temple halls on your way toward main hall of Kurama Temple. 木の根道 means road of tree roots. This is a ground where the trees are firmly supported one another on the ground where the roots of the trees are forming a strong knot under the ground leading your way to a shrine of Osugi Kengen.
