Tsuru no Yu

A great traditional style onsen. Soaking while the snow is falling is just great. I did not stay over night, the traditional room look great for summer though.

Amazing, rustic Onsen Ryokan. It is possible to visit the Onsen even as a day guest until 3pm. The water is milky, so even when bathing in the mixed bath, it's OK. The entrance for the ladies is a bit hidden and covered, but for guys it's very much in the open. There is a separate women only bath too. The road is quite bumpy and a bit of an adventure when snow covered. Only for confident (and experienced) drivers.

Very secluded onsen ryokan deep in the mountains off Lake Tazawa. Came here for lunch and day onsen on a public holiday. The food was very tasty, and the outdoor onsen was excellent if a little crowded.

Best place to go in autumn. However, the facilities can be better in the onsen

Beautiful traditional ryokan with mixed onsen and delicious food for dinner and breakfast. Totally worth the price
