木下貝層は、千葉県北部から
茨城県南部に広く分布しており、
印西市木下で最初に調べられたので、
この名前が付いています。
この貝層は、約12～13万年前の
貝層で、その頃の関東平野には、
「古東京湾」と呼ばれる大きな
内湾が広がっており、その内湾の
波浪や潮流によって貝殻が集められ
堆積したものが木下貝層です。
Cliffs where the cross-section of the stratum can be observed are called "outcrop". It is often said that what is fun when you see such things, but it is a fun place for otaku who can avoid "three secrets" and freely expand their imagination without inconvenience to people. The Kinoshita shell layer was deposited when more than half of the Kanto plain was the sea.

It is a spot where you can witness the deep and long history of the earth. When you look around from the hill, a residential area with a sense of life spreads out, and the gap with the place where the nationally designated natural monument "Kinoshigai Formation" is interesting.
Looking at the contents of the explanation board, I feel the depth of history. I realized that it was not easy for a shell from 120,000 to 130,000 years ago to be rolling at my feet.
