Nihonbashi Saruya

Visited Saruya (Established 1704) in September 2016, a boutique shop in Nihombashi selling only hand-carved toothpicks and cloth toothpick holders, after seeing a recommendation to visit it in WAttention Tokyo 2016 Summer Issue, to "own a piece of Edo." WAttention Tokyo describes it as "the only handmade toothpick specialty store not only in Japan, but in the world." Perhaps it is, and if it is, that makes visiting it worth one's while. Tiny store, as the product line is simple. Elegant and refined, with friendly staff (one or two store clerks). The toothpicks are good for an auspicious gift, and I bought a hand-carved box of them for myself and for a friend. Absolutely a unique store, and worth visiting (you only need 10 minutes, since the store isn't bigger than a modern kitchen and the product line is toothpicks and their accessories).

I bought a product with a name-entry service as a gift for Respect for the Aged Day at the online shop instead of the main store. I think I made a very good purchase. There were some parts where the order flow was a little difficult to understand, but overall I am very satisfied. I will be using this again.
