Shuraku Kitsukura Brewery Shop

There are so many great sake breweries in Saku city, but so few open on weekends. Went to this one because it has a shop open weekends and was surprised that the master came out to pour our tasting and talk with us. He was a very friendly man who spoke some English. The sake is delicious -- I particularly liked the sparkling variety, which was a little sour and lemony, not insipidly sweet like others. Also recommended are the seasonal Mujinzo sakes, of which there are three different varieties for autumn, winter/spring, and summer (winter is my favorite). The brewery is old and historic and tours are also available with prior reservation.

It is located on Kanaza-dori in the former Usuda town. There is a beautiful sake brewery and a store on the same site, which is quite large.
