This museum houses good collections from both international and local artists. There are exhibits that are also relevant to Yokohoma's history and culture. The cafe inside is a good one and the museum shop has many interesting pieces you can buy for gifts or yourself. Even the exterior and the whole area outside is a cool spot to hangouy. If you want a quiet and thoughtful time, be inspired by art and experience Yokohama through art... This is the place to be.

The free exhibit was good. The Japanese artists were good, but there was some odd photography which wasn't as nice.

This is a top quality art gallery. And best of all it's not too busy. Japanese people are so full of respect for human endeavour, and the way they line up politely to look at each work of art in turn is wonderful. Especially for the leisure bound Westerner, viewing masterpieces shipped in from Paris at his own lackadaisical pace. So well laid out. So quiet. And not just the two or three major works from the advertised artist, and the rest from his or her off sider, such as they often do at the NSW gallery. No, this seasons exhibition from the Musee d'l'orangerie features a veritable bounty of master works by Cezanne, Renoir, Sisley and continues on, unabashed. Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, all the big names and none of the small ones. The gallery features a large number of works in the permanent collection documenting the fascinating history of the port of Yokohama. There's even a Dali sculpture, a rare sight this far from Spain. Strong WiFi. Wish I knew what a Yokohama cappuccino was. I think it's a flat white with saffron and gold leaf?
