It is known that there was a graveyard of the Fujiwara clan around Kohata in Uji during the Heian period, and many graves are still scattered around as "Uji Mausoleum". At the location of Kohata Elementary School, there was Jomyoji, which was built by Fujiwara no Michinaga as Fujiwara's family temple. An archaeological excavation during the renovation of an elementary school building revealed the ruins that are believed to be the main hall of the temple.
Currently, Uji City has set up a monument and explanation board for the "Jyomyoji Ruins" beside the gate on the west side of the elementary school. However, the characters in the explanation disappear and are barely readable.
