One of the most stylish station buildings on the Shinano Railway line. This is Showa Retro, as opposed to the Edo period style of the neighboring Tanaka Station. The vending machine has a nice rugged taste 🎶

I like this townscape ~

The station building is quite small and old. It seems that it will open in 1891. At present, the Shinano Railway only stops, but after the Shin-Etsu Line opened, the Shin-Etsu Main Line also stopped, and it became a station between Ueda Station and Tanaka Station. With the opening of Oya Station, it will play an important role in transporting raw silk to the Yokohama port for export. Oya Station seems to be the first petition station in Japan. A petition station is a station that was opened at the request of local governments, residents, and companies. The line of the Ueda Maruko Electric Railway Maruko Line extended from Oya Station. Ueda Maruko Electric Railway Maruko Line is a line that connects Oya Station from Ueda Higashi and Marukomachi Station to Oya Station, and it seems that it was an interesting structure to switch back at Oya Station. The whole line was opened in 1914. Considering the fact that the Maruko Railway, which was a step forward, was established mainly by the silk mill, it was clear that the silk mill at that time had a strong influence. The Maruko Line was abolished in 1969, but it seems that there are a few traces of the cargo handling line used to deliver freight cars from the Shin-Etsu Main Line. When I looked inside the station building, I found a very old clock. According to the attached instructions, this watch has been used while being repaired and maintained many times, and it is said that it is still accurate. It blended in with the atmosphere of the station building, and I thought it fits. When I took a short walk around the station, the public toilet near the entrance of the station was very beautiful. The bridge over the other side of the station was aging, with holes in the fence. There seemed to be restaurants and hotel-like buildings around the rotary, but it was unclear if they were open.

With the opening of the Nagano Shinkansen (now the Hokuriku Shinkansen) in October 1997, this is the "Shinano Railway" station, which was separated from the JR conventional line and managed as a third sector. This station is also used for connections with "Ueda Station," which is the closest station to the Shinkansen from Maruko, but the main customers are morning and evening high school students and commuters. It is an old wooden station building, and currently there are no station staff. In the waiting room there is a large old wooden wall clock with a pendulum, which was previously broken but now repaired and fits nicely into a wooden station building with an atmosphere. There are also local buses and taxi ranks bound for Maruko and Kakeyu Onsen.
