People all over Korea say, "Dae ~ han ~ min ~ guk jjal ~ 쨘 ~ 쨘 ~ 쨘 ~ 쨔!" Cry shouted in one voice to be. Its area is 545,000 square meters. Capacity 200,000 people. Seoul Metropolitan City established the basic construction plan in October 1976, considering that existing facilities such as the Dongdaemun Stadium and Jangchung Gymnasium alone cannot cope with domestic and international sports demand. It started construction in December 1976, after absorbing the Sarajevo World Table Tennis Conquest Memorial, which was planned to be built by the Korea Table Tennis Association. Completion of construction plans for various facilities including the main stadium (Main Stadium) In November 1977, the construction of the main stadium and indoor swimming pool began. An indoor gymnasium (7,000 pyeong: capacity 20,000 people) was completed and opened in April 1979, and an indoor swimming pool (6000 pyeong: 4,500 people) was completed in December 1980. With the confirmation of the hosting of the 88 Olympic and 86 Asian Games in September and November 1981, the construction of the Seoul Sports Complex was spurred as a necessary facility. In June 1982, a baseball stadium (18,000 pyeong: capacity of 50,000 people) was completed, and a main stadium with 100,000 people and a two-story grandstand was opened in September 1984. In addition, auxiliary stadiums (capacity of 20,000 people), deck plazas, parking lots and green areas were established. Through the installation of the subway line 2 in front of the sports ground, three-dimensional intersection, and the underground walkway, the traffic was facilitated and the memorial tower and other convenient facilities were installed in the complex.
