It is important because it is the first road starting point on the Korean Peninsula and the starting point for reaching the continent. It is a point that becomes a historical memorial.

It is located at the entrance of the Mokpo Modern History Museum (Japan Consulate of Japan). The name of the current national road is attached to the National Road Route Designation Order of 1971, It is also a symbol of sad history which was used for suicide and invasion of Manchuria. National highway No. 1 passes through Panmunjom with 1,068km of Mokpo ~ Shinuiju. Since then, it has been extended to the highway by the opening of Mokpo Bridge. The north of Cheonan is like the Chosun Dynasty. National highway No. 2 is the first Mokpo ~ Busan 377km. Currently, the length of the route has been increased due to the opening of Angang Bridge.
Man Joong Kim (04/04/2018)
It is the starting point of Route 1 and Route 2, which are the backbone of Korean traffic. Route 1 is a road that runs from Mokpo, Jeollanam-do to Sinuiju, North Pyongan, along the west coast. The north-eastern section of Munsan-eup, Paju-si, is blocked by a ceasefire line and is not accessible. Route 2 is a road from Sinan, Jeollanam-do to Busan Metropolitan City, so it is also called Shinan ~ Busan Line. Originally, the starting point of National Route 2 was this place, but it is said to extend the starting point to Jangsan-myeon, Sinan-gun, in order to take advantage of the road that passes through the south-west.
