Delicious milk toffee and foods

Muthu Milk is a milk-collection, processing and value addition centre operated by The Muthur East Dairy Development Co-op Society. They also have an outlet and a mini restaurant for the public to purchase their dairy products. Local dairy farmers, who are members of the society, bring their milk to the collection centre where its quality and other criteria are checked for conformity, and then deposited into the centre’s hybrid cooling system. I was told that the members bring in about 10,000 litres of milk per month during peak season. The processing centre then uses the milk to produce ghee, milk-toffee, curd, yogurt, ice-lollies and ice cream. Visitors to the restaurant can also enjoy a warm cup of fresh milk. The centre also accepts large orders to cater for weddings and other events. While I was there, a local Hindu priest and two policeman were at the restaurant enjoying a cup of ice cream. One policeman even asked if they had an outlet in Trincomalee town. He said he enjoyed their ice cream whenever he visited Muthur. I helped translate. Unfortunately they don’t have an outlet in Trinco. The area can get scorching hot in the middle of the day, stopping over at Muthu Milk to cool down was a good idea. They have a detached squatting pan type toilet behind the centre. It was clean and seemed to be regularly maintained. They were making milk-toffee when I was there. I got to taste some hot milk-toffee crumbs. It was quite sweet, but very tasty.
