We were in this place roughly 10 years ago and hence this photo may seem a bit out of date. This place has really come up since then. Our first trip to Srilanka and we were staying in the nearby Heritance Ahungalla. That’s when the chef and another guy from Sunshine restaurant approached us while we were lounging on the beach, inviting us to try local food at their restaurant. We agreed to drop by for dinner. Needless to say - it was the most amazing gastronomic experience we had. For the next 2 days that we were there, our every meal was here. The chef would prepare fresh food for us with some of the most amazing flavours we had tasted. The banquet and ambience they created for us for a ‘by the beach’ dinner when at the tome they did not have any set up for a beach side dinner was breathtaking and out of this world. They went out of their way to create a special experience for us - just us dining by the beach at night on a beautiful boat shaped table, Surrounded by colourful lanterns and flags. It’s an experience we shall never forget. I have dined in a few Michelin star restaurants since then. But the personalised hospitality, the love of its which they prepared and served their food at Sunshine on that balmy night at Ahungalla, surpasses every other experience.

I tried a few places in this area and it's definitely the best in terms of quality and service vs price. We had a platter of seafood and it was fresh and well seasoned.

That's what you should know about the Sunshine Restaurant: This restaurant has grown historically. In 2004, the original building was covered by the waves of Zunamis. With all his might and a lot of money the restaurant was rebuilt. 8 years ago me a small house with a thatched roof. The restaurant is now again in full size and splendor and is looking forward to your visit. You really have to look over here. Bay in the hotel only breakfast and comes over for lunch and dinner.
