The school was founded in 19th January, 1942. A segment of a Buddhist pali verse “Appamadena Sampadetha" was selected as the motto of the school. he school was acquired by the government on 15th November 1943. The number of students was developed up to 55 in 1944 and there were thirteen classes and eight teachers in the school. The number of students in 1945 was 376 .The school was uplifted to a central college this year. A boy’s hostel for scholarship holders was opened at Dodampahala in 1947. Girl’s hostel was opened in ‘Wijesekara walawwa” in 1950. There were 434 students and 30 teachers in the school. Because there’s not enough room in the school, the academic activities were conducted in both morning and afternoon sessions.
