You can't say you have visited Marrakech without seeing the one and only Square. Being at the center of the city, the square is very famous for shopping, dining and European style Street cafes. Prior to the curfew, this Square was vibrating with echoes of traditional Moroccan music and smoke from the bbq stands. Rooftop cafes were ideal for watching the sunset while in the evening, strolling in the crowded Square gave everyone a feeling of joy and happiness.
This square is very beautiful and listed under UNESCO. Many tourists visit it because it’s extraordinary charm, unique and must see. Authentic street vendors, magicians, craftsmen, henna tattoos, very nice to sit on one of the terraces above the square. Some vendors may charge for any taken photo especially snake charmers and monkey owners.
Marrakech is love or hate. If you live for luxury, it’s not for you, so.. please book yourself an hotel inside a nice resort and don't leave at all.
But if you don’t mind mixing it and having the city interacting with you, you’ll love it.
Yes, you will need to have a lot of patience and say "no thanks" all the time to people asking you for money CONSTANTLY, because you are literally a cashier machine. Some people can be even aggressive.
Can be stressful, and it gets romanticised in photos, but is absolutely beautiful.
Visiting Jemaa EL-Fna is like spending some moments in a fairy tale. It is not only a famous and unique sightseeing, it's more than that, it's an idea, a dream, the spirit of a millennium city and the imprint of its historical richness. Spend rare moments strolling between food stalls , tasting traditional local dishes or attending theatrical events performed by local artists , it's worth it .
If you find yourself fancy to purchase freshly squeezed juice from one of the market sellers, be smart... Always observe in person process of squeezing... Majority of sellers tend to cheat tourists by adding sweetened water, pre-prepared watered down juice etc.
I personally saw packages of white sugar placed on counter, it's rather obvious why it was there...
See, stalls are elevated above the ground making impossible to see for customers what's going on behind the counter... Vigilance is essential, since moroccans are like gypsies, trying to deceive you tirelessly
