This place is full of history. It's the intersection of the power of the Almoravides dynasty that ruled Morocco on the 11 th century and the Andalusian civilization. Al Mutamid was a king of Sevilla in Spain and was imprisoned by Yusef Ibn Tachfine the king of Morocco. But if you go there , see the archeological site of Aghmat. This city was known even before the arrival of the Muslims. It was the first entry after the high atlas of trade caravans coming from Africa and Sahara.
Before going there read a bit about the history of Aghmat, of the Almoravide dynasty, and most important about Zaynab ! This woman was born in Aghmat and lived under 2 dynasties (Idrisside and Almoravide), married 2 princes and 2 kings !
She was the initiator of the idea of building a new city: Marrakech.
The whole place is 40 mn from Marrakech and really worth seeing. You better have somebody who speaks Arabic that can translate from the local guardians of these sites.

Abu al-Qasim al-Mu'timid on God Muhammad ibn Abbad (also called al-Zafar and al-Mu'ayyad) (431 AH - 488 AH / 1040-1095 CE) [5] is the third and last king of Banu Abbad in Andalusia, and Ibn Abi Amr al-Mu'tadid, the ruler of Seville, was king of Seville and Cordoba in the era of The kings of the Taifa before eliminating his emirate, the Almoravids. [6] He was born in Beja (a province in present-day Portugal), and succeeded his father in the rule of Seville when he was thirty years old, then expanded his possession, seizing Valencia, Murcia and Cordoba, and became one of the most powerful kings of the sects, so the other princes took him gifts and paid him taxes. His poet Abu Bakr Ibn al-Labanah claimed that he owned 200 cities and fortresses in Andalusia, and that he gave birth to 173 children. [7]
Place full of serenity and history. Short visit to combine with the Friday market (beware of prayer times)
Tomb evoking the free fall of the prince's life!
