A shiny trophy of a building full of fast food and trashy boutiques, completely lacking in organization. There is literally no line in the ticket office, a complete mess. There are usually about 15 workers standing around doing absolutely nothing while one or two workers attend to a mass of customers. Do NOT take a taxi from any of the dishonest men who will be waiting for you when you walk out of the station - they will charge you 3 to 5 times more than a fair price. Ignore them completely and walk out to the busy street ahead and just hail a regular taxi which will use the meter.
This is the modern Gare Tanger Ville train station in the Malabata area of Tangier, Morocco, located across from the Tanger City Center shopping mall.
The renovated and much larger station was inaugurated by King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron of France in late-November 2018. It accommodates the high-speed TGV trains to Kenitra, Rabat Agdal and Casablanca.
The station is a beautiful and imposing structure, architecturally, and inside there is an ultra-modern circular glass elevator, two escalators, various shops, a pharmacy, Orange, Maroc Telecom, Cash Plus and a comfortable cafe-restaurant, RestauRail.
The first and only Starbucks in Tangier opened inside this train station in early 2019, and there is also a Banque Populaire with two ATM machines outside directly to the left of the main entrance.
The modern Tangier train station has a glass-enclosed air-conditioned and heated ticket area with many seats, and a separate comfortable “Al Boraq Lounge", reserved exclusively for First Class ticket holders on the new TGV high speed trains.
There are Marrakech palms growing inside this station which has a 40-feet high ceiling, a mezzanine level and attractive fountains. The vast space, with multiple floor-to-ceiling glass façades has polished marble floors.
The ONCF's free WiFi did not work on my first and second visits, which was a disappointment.
There are clean toilets for travelers, many comfortable seats in different waiting areas, including some in the ticket area, and various new shops and a pharmacy.
Domestic and international credit cards such as MasterCard and Visa are now accepted when you buy your tickets, but it might be wise to bring enough Moroccan Dirhams in cash to purchase your ticket should there be any temporary problem with the card machine.
An enclosed waiting area is available to sit in while waiting to board your train. Just show your ticket to enter this room, which has plenty of seats.
It would be an improvement if the ONCF website would add English to its choice of languages since many international travelers speak English.
The worse services ever I have seen in any station, there is no organization ... nor is there respect for the people coming into the station.... the person charged with the station does not even meet with travelers... I had to wait for 2 hours for just find someone to talk with about my problem and finally no solution was offer.
Modern new train station for the TGV and train lines. Excellent amenties. Food & Cafe and shopping in the center and across the street at the Mall
Best railway station I have ever seen in Morocco so far. Incredibly beautiful and extremely clean including toilets. There are so many restaurants in the second floor, and in the first floor Starbucks and many other cosmetics and clothing stores. Bottom line, It's a well constructed station
