The address is Rue Al-Aidi Ali Al-Maaroufi, but to find this hidden gem, I suggest first going to Rick’s Café, at 248 Boulevard Sour Jdid, adjacent to the park known as Place Du Jardin. Facing Rick’s, turn right for a half block, then left at the small triangular park named Place Du Jardin. Walk about four blocks, turning right at about the fourth alley-like street. Synagogue Rabbi Ettedgui is on the right, behind a high wrought iron fence. Look for Hebrew letters above the arched wooden doors.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI rededicated Synagogue Rabbi Ettedgui. The synagogue and adjacent El Mellah Museum, which traces Moroccan Jewish history, were reopened on December 20, 2016. They were restored as part of a government program rehabilitating Casablanca’s old city, the Ancient Medina. An $844,000 government grant funded restoration, which demonstrates the king’s commitment to conserving historic structures, cultural dialogue and coexistence. Synagogue Ettedgui reconstruction is part of a $3.2-million-project to upgrade religious, historical and architectural heritage of Casablanca’s Old Medina.
May Allah bless us all .
May God bless my country which respect all religions.. but above all May God bless our beloved king and his Royal family .
