Great rooftop view and soft beds, but dishonest and abusive staff. Liked: 1) Amazing rooftop overlooking the medina from a great vantagepoint. 2) Amazing rooftop room and very comfortable, soft bed. Lots of other interior rooms but all I checked had comfortable beds. 3) Good location and there's now a (small) sign at the hotel entrance so it's reasonably straightforward to find. Location is reasonably correct on Google Maps (within 20m). 4) Breakfast was simple and decent. Disliked: 1) Upon arrival the manager Abdul attempted to overcharge me by EUR30 for my 8-night stay. I held firm and eventually managed to pay the correct amount after repeated refusals to overpay. That first night, a shopkeeper elsewhere in the medina warned me that the same manager was dishonest and I should be careful. 2) The day-to-day hotelkeeper, Mohammed, spoke almost no English and this caused lots of misunderstandings--for example he told me breakfast was from "eight to eleven" but then got angry the second morning because we were late for breakfast at 10:30am. He then typed out "eleven" on his calculator, which was in fact "9". (He thought '9' was pronounced 'eleven'). 3) Mohammed regularly got into verbal arguments with Fatima, the housekeeper, and even PHYSICALLY ABUSED HER, pushing her onto the ground and causing her to cry. 4) I had one 7-night and one 1-night reservation, for a total of 8 nights. After checking out of the riad after the 8th night, my second, 1-night booking was incorrectly cancelled and marked as a 'no-show' by the manager--further evidence of shady business practices. I disputed the no-show but it ended up being arbitrated as a no-show, leaving a black mark on my Booking.com record.
