Aéroport international de Nosy Be-Fascene

Just another small African airport, slow, hot and corrupt. I didn’t have any issues arriving but the person I was traveling with was asked for a gift. On the way out I was asked for a gift. Neither of us gave anything. Despite the sign posted that bribes are illegal and to contact a number, nothing is done about them.

Read the scary reviews which made me very cautious at first. It's a nice friendly and clean airport. Also very clean toiletes aat least for domestic flights. No incidents whatsoever

First time in my life police asking me for bribes for checking my passport. Airport is small, average clean, without any service (no change, no ATM). Only a cafeteria is present, with European prices. No AC. Save some change for earning your way out of the mess when you step outside of the arrivals area.

I haven't been to a less professional airport than this one. The corruption levels in this place! The staff want bribes. It looks like it's a culture there. They whisper to you demanding "gifts". It was shocking when it happened the first time. Unbelievable! The visa process is one manual affair and I think those visa fees end up in their pockets. There's no way they keep track of all those payments we make. After the airport staff want their bribes, then next it's the taxi guys who'll want to bleed you dry. Just be careful around here. Be extra vigilant. They did random baggage searches after arrival, like they were just looking for something to take for themselves. The air conditioning in the terminal building is non existent, and it's hot in these parts. It's uncomfortable waiting for your flight in such conditions. The airport makes extremely bad first impressions for the island. Makes it hard to recommend this place to friends and family. PS: knowing French would serve you very well here.

Terrible airport, have to queue up outside while people try to con you our of money. No real system, staff are slow, no food just over priced biscuits and water.
