Between and the beautiful post office building and the Hotel Imperial Post opposite, there is an independence monument in the middle of the avenue. The right part of the monument striving towards the sky contains two rows with 9 illustrations each, they represent the 18 ethnic groups of Madagascar. The left part of the monument has the shape of a standing disk. The national anthem "Fahaleovantena" is shown on it.
