I have spent the most fabulous two days in Antananarivo, with a very excellent English-speaking guide from Ortana, by the name of Tojo. I couldn't have asked for a better guide and companion around Tana and the surrounding region. He was extremely knowledgeable about both the political and natural history of Madagascar, and his passion for his country really showed. Ortana is the official government tourist office, and only official guides work from there, so you are guaranteed a fixed price and a good standard of guide, who will look after you very well and help you make the most of your stay. Despite being warned about Tana being very dangerous before coming here, I have felt perfectly safe, and Tojo always warned me of crowded areas where pickpockets are particularly prevalent, and made sure I could find spots for some great photos of this wonderful city and surrounding countryside. If you want to see the highlights of Tana, you could not do better than popping into Ortana to find a guide!

The staff of the office is very efficient and gives precise information on the city of Antananarivo and the Analamanga region in general. The board has qualified regional guides of which I am a member. They can make you visit the city with many smiles in complete safety. They are bilingual! The 3-star kiosks (open 7 days a week during office hours) are located in Antaninarenina Garden and Andohalo Garden. The trinkets of souvenirs that sell the office are very beautiful and cheaply.
