Super place! Bungalows at the beach. Whale watching from the terrace. Extremely friendly personel. Quiet. Nice food. Small scale.

I don't want to give any place a 5 star review but I honestly feel like a 4 star does not do it justice, although 5 may be pushing it. I wish I could give it a 4.5 The chalets are well maintained and clean. The bathrooms especially are in good shape. When I was there I paid 40000 Ar (13$) a night for accommodation which made it a solid value offering. The service is nothing short of excellent. All of the hotel staff know your name and are more than willing to assist you in any way possible. Furthermore; they go out of their way to make you feel at home and familiar and in my case even went out of their way to introduce me (the solo traveler) to some of the other travelers staying there at the same time. The food is priced fairly. Every meal I ate there was delicious and very well prepared. Lee-La (or La-Lee) is the manager and she speaks fluent English. She really gets to know all of the guests well and provides the most useful advice to anyone and also really goes the extra mile to ensure that everyone is well looked after. They provide airport shuttle service or to the ferry and also almost all of the tuk tuk drivers know where the hotel is and the hotel is centrally located. you can get to the north or south of the island easily from the hotel and if you are into hiking there is an amazing hike from the west of the island to the east which starts very close to the hotel. the view from the rooms overlooking the reef is stunning and you can swim as well. I honestly do not think there is a better place to stay than at Atafana when you visit Sainte Marie. Suggestions when you are at Atafana; 1. Cycle or take a tuk tuk to the south point of the Island and take a ferry over to the smaller island at the south point 2. Hike to the east side of the island (it is an easy 3hr hike that starts in forest) but do this hike very early in the morning-after 9 am the sun is really hot and the latter part of the hike has no shade. once you reach the east side, go to the mangroves and cross over to the beach-pristine, untouched, and so amazing.
