Reviews
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We chose the Palafito Suite/Villa which was absolutely perfect in every way. It was extremely spacious and private. We had the top floor which consisted of an outdoor bath and access to a roof with an outdoor shower and lounge chairs. You could tell some of the décor does need updating, but we understood that the resort had been closed for about 8 months due to Covid.
We were given bikes to travel around the resort. They had only 2 restaurants open during our 5 day stay. Ambar and Aqua Marina. The service and food were amazing. My partner, especially loved Ambar Restaurant. I know the other bars, pools, and restaurants were close- not sure if this was Covid related- but we look forward to coming back an getting the full experience.
Pros: Omar & Ernesto - by far the best customer service we have every experienced! They were the highlight of our trip. Pedro was also extremely kind and the rest of the staff. So accommodating. The resort was not full, so the beach cabanas and poolside snacks were easy to claim. The views from the beach and from Aqua Marina were to die for. Again, we stayed at the Palafito Suites, which are right behind the Beach Suites, which is very convenient.
Cons: Wished the other restaurants were open to get the full experience. I think it would be better for you to be told the other amenities at check-in, and not while I'm enjoying breakfast or lunch. We did have one small mishap- Someone came by to refill the minibar and locked us on the roof of our suite without checking to see why the balcony door was open to begin with. Thank goodness my partner had his phone, because their is no emergency phone or button on the balcony or the roof. The same day, we had to ask for housekeeping to come 3 times which was a hassle, because they kept saying they would come now and we keep leaving for hours at a time to give them time to clean. Instead of calling the concierge a 4th time, I called the front desk and it was straightened out.
Altogether an enjoyable experience that I could see myself trying again. I visited for New Year's 2021 and felt lingering effects of the COVID shutdown but could appreciate the quality and spirit of the hotel shining through. I thought the food was universally superb. From breakfast and snacks at Aguamarina to dinner at Ambar, the quality of ingredients, taste, and presentation consistently impressed me. It was further delightful that I could order second or even third servings of anything I craved more of. The New Year's Eve tasting menu was unequivocally worthy of being called fine dining. My condolences to the guests who left the resort that night thinking they could find better fare elsewhere! (I didn't order any of the "extra" dishes outside of the all-inclusive package, but in retrospect I'm pleased that I didn't even feel the need to).
Ambar was also elegantly lit and decorated, and the sunrise views from Aguamarina were straight out of a movie. Some areas of the hotel were closed and dusty, but from what I experienced I could feel a well-worn sense of beauty not unlike what I feel from seeing aged artwork.
A round of golf was also included with the stay. The concierge booked me a round at Gran Coyote Golf which I thought was a beautiful course and I later saw was one of the top rated golf courses in the area. Bonus points there!
For the first half of my stay I experienced significant issues with my room that regrettably prevent me from leaving 5 stars. (Hot water not working, phone not working, A/C that wouldn't turn off, leaking pipe in bathroom). However my experience would have been much worse had the manager, Alonzo, not stepped in and set things right. I was impressed with his professionalism and empathy. Once he fixed everything with the room I was able to fully relax and appreciate the resort as it was meant to be. Alonzo and his staff were clearly working extremely hard and doing their best. Their earnest attitude made it easier for me to have patience in spite of my initial struggles. I wish them the best in getting everything back up to 100% so that everyone can have the full experience at Blue Diamond.
TLDR: There is nothing luxury about this place and refuse to stay anywhere with the word “luxury” in the name after this place. My husband and I refer to it as “the place where nothing works.” They just reopened after being closed for 9 months from COVID and are severely understaffed and not ready for guests. I would STRONGLY advise NOT staying here for the foreseeable future!
NOTHING 4 Diamond AAA rated about this place. Everything is closed from COVID or damaged from the hurricanes.
Beware: All the positive reviews below are from before the hotel closed!
The details:
1. No hot water - The outdoor tub in our room had no hot water and doesn’t work- they fill it with a hose. For our shower, our hot water never worked. Took at least 10 minutes before a less than freezing temperature would come on. We called 4x and they claimed to have “fixed” it but never came in the room to check and see it wasn’t working. The shower on the roof deck also doesn’t work. Nor does the hot water for the hot tub so during winter, all of the water is cold. We never saw one person get in the pool.
2. Poor Service:
a. They will not serve you on the beach. If you want drinks, you have to walk up a flight of stairs every time you want one. If you want food, good luck. You have to sit at the restaurant - they sometimes will serve you lunch 5 steps over at the pool. They will not allow you to take your food to go or bring it to you on the beach or even to the pool (literally 10 steps away) for breakfast or dinner.
b. For these reasons, we ordered breakfast to the room for room service which costs $20 and takes an hour. We ate our food and then they never came to pick up our plates. The next morning at 6 AM we heard loud noises regarding the plates only to realize animals had found the food and were loudly eating it. Housekeeping put the plates outside but nobody took them back to the kitchen for over 24 hours! Disgusting!
c. When we checked in, they came to bring ice and took all the alcohol from our mini bar. The next day, they didn’t restock it at all. The day after we received all new bottles of alcohol. The service was incredibly inconsistent.
d. Took FOREVER to get ahold of the front desk, get a bell boy to take you anywhere (the property is huge)! Always had to call multiple times to get what we needed.
3. Food: The food is terrible! First off only one restaurant was open for the first two days and it is the only restaurant where you can eat outside. The first night the food was inedible - the tuna loin was too tough to even cut and the “tiradito” was just raw fish. We found one dish that was decent and ate 3 of them for dinner. For lunch, get the ribeye tacos and French fries which are not on the menu. Dinner theme was BBQ on the last night? No just Mexican or casual food. Will say dinner was definitely passable this night at least but still nothing to write home about. Omelets were overdone- stick to the simplest options here.
4. Room: The mattress is as clearly old and as a rock- you can feel the springs. Super firm. Worst hotel mattress I’ve slept on in years.
5. Consensus: We bonded with several of the other guests about how poor the service was and how we were all sold a lie. Another guest told me he arrived at 10:30 AM and by 6 PM he still did not have a room. For over $500 a night - this place was ridiculously overpriced for little to no value. I am expecting a refund from our horrific experience!
6. No customer service: When we checked out, after waiting 20 minutes for a bell boy again, there was no ask of how our stay was so hoping this may get their attention!
Do NOT stay here until they double their staff, offer service on the beach and pool, and get their menu consistent. Much better options nearby with WAY better service.
This is the first review I’ve ever left because this was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had at a “luxury” resort.
This was my 3rd time to Mexico, but my first time to this Boutique Hotel. Honestly, I would come back here as soon as possible, as I LOVED it!
It was my first experience with an All-Inclusive experience and WOW, it surpassed all my expectations!!!!
The food was top-notch, the servers inside the entire property felt sincere within their service, the room was HUGE, and the property allowed for a jungle experience as well as a beach experience.
I had the fantastic opportunity to join in with Herminio's wine class which was incredibly interesting and his passion for the subject was contagious. Don't miss this free offering of the establishment.
Yup, like the other's have said in their reviews, get your bikes reserved the day you arrive as it's a fun way to get around the property. (A suggestion to the proprietors-each room should have their own bikes outside our room upon arriving-especially since so many reviews are negatively commenting on not getting bikes until halfway through their stay)
DO NOT MISS OUT on the Spa facility. The bodywork was wonderful but the big highlight for me was the pool and the hot tub in the courtyard of the Spa. GORGEOUS!!!!
The spa also has the most beautiful steam room I've ever been to. A work of mosaic art for certain.
I honestly cannot say enough about all the things I enjoyed here.
The beds that were inside our room were not very comfortable, but the moment I requested additional padding, it was taken care of immediately. All requests were honored and in a timely manner, I might add.
I'll be back for certain!
My husband and I have stayed at Blue Diamond a handful of times now and we have nothing but amazing things to say about our several stays. From the amenities, to the food, and the attention to detail from the staff everything is perfection. We choose to get married here because of that and the caring staff. Our main priority for our guests was for the them relax and enjoy the hotel which they did but their number one complement was how nice and attentive the staff was, and we couldn't agree more. THAT is way we love Blue Diamond and why we choose it.Truly a home away from home.
