December 2020 wasn’t the perfect time to visit the place. The color of the lake wasn’t like we expected due to hurricane and rain. So if you want to pospone your trip (beside of the transmission) just pospone it. Do it next year! The locals said the perfect month to visit it is from February-July.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the ones writing that this thing has turned to green. At some parts brownish green.

An impressive site and a must see. We went on a sightseeing boat tour and saw a few cenotes, an abandoned five-star hotel and hung out by the Pirates' channel, amongst other things. We enjoyed every minute of it and will definitely recommend it to other people. This is still sort of a hidden gem. In a few years Bacalar will become mainstream for tourism in the Mayan Ribiera.
