The Pathecito aquifer is made up of volcanic materials in thicknesses of several hundred meters consisting of fractured ignimbrites, lava flows mainly of basaltic composition, with good permeability, interspersed with impermeable tuffs, as well as pyroclastic materials and permeable alluviums interspersed with lava spills. basaltic and rhyolitic. The alternation of permeable lava flows with impermeable tuffs gives rise to various springs in the region. In topographically elevated areas the outcrops of volcanic rocks function as recharge zones or give rise to hanging aquifers.
