GLAD WE DID IT: We made a spontaneous stopover in this improvised little Mayan village museum - I usually tend to just drive by such locations, never knowing what it might hold for you. This time I challenged myself and broke up with this habit. What a good decision! We rolled out on the gravel parking lot and were greeted by a member of the family living there. He said, come in and I’ll show you around. No pushing, no hassle, no expectations. And it was so interesting what we were told in the following 20 minutes. At the end, unexpectedly, we were offered a typical Mayan meal all made from local homemade ingredients. And we could learn how to make tortillas ourselves. Of course, we showed our appreciation by tipping generously...

Really unique experience...great history of Mayan culture in this region. Loved the tortillas at the end of the tour!

A GREAT EXPERIENCE!! A real Mayan village that has been passed down from generation to generation . We met the family that lives there and they took their time explaining their culture and their traditions . They taught us the importance of their diets, what medicinal uses they obtain from the forest , the various uses that trees provide them , and many more insights on how the Mayan way of life was and how they keep assuring that those ways are not lost . Really good people and energy . Recommend it !!

We stopped here with my family and it was truly the highlight of our entire trip. We were kindly greeted and given a very detailed tour of different techniques of making dye, clay, growing medicinal plants, and, most importantly, keeping the sacred Mayan bees. After the tour, they gave us one of the most delicious meals we have had — all ingredients directly from the milpa. We bought some honey — not from the honey bee but from the sacred Mayan bees which must be sung to in order to be appeased. We of course left a generous tip and would like to encourage anyone who might be in Coba or Tulum to take advantage of this wonderful community based tourism.
