Ranas Archaeological Zone

A very nice spot, very much worth to undertake the long journey to get to it. Not something the average Tourist will see.

The service was amazing! If you go there on a Sunday, you can get in for free! Awesome views, fresh air, just lovely. I do recommend to bring your own paper toilet everywhere you travel in Mexico as a side note ;).

Breathtaking views and very complete beautiful structures!

I’d say Ranas’ importance resides in that it is one of the very few Archeological Sites that have been excavated in the state of Querétaro. There is not much documentation about the site or culture that inhabited it, and I’d not do the trip just to visit the site. But if you combine it with a visit to Gruta de los Herrera, and you like beautiful mountainous landscapes while driving, there you go, this is a great combo.

You can walk from town. It is a long walk but well worth it for the views. The site is awesome and extensive enough. Ask the man on the cider shop just outside the site for the shorter path to get back to town. You will walk through the forest, really atmospheric and scary / exciting!
