Tour unfortunately leaves only when the seats on the boat is full, and nobody knows when you could leave, it is always "15min more...". We had a tour at the beginning of the "flamingo period", we could see only around 50, maybe less, all scattered in an area. Best moment to come is from late December to March. When we reached the pure water springs, it is nothing similar to the picture. Water is red due to mangroves and we discourage taking a bath, though apparently allowed, as there was a crocodile in the nearby. Still a nice tour to see a bit of wildlife.

We went for 300pesos per person tour to see flamingos. Guy on a street who was advertising this tour told us we gonna see a lot of flamingos. After 2h and seeing just 5 flamingos close to the beach the guide told us we have to pay additional 50pesos per person to see more flamingos. We had no choice at this point as we wanted to see them so we agreed. We parked our boat, walk about 1km each way, saw like 30 flamingos for 1 minute and then they flew away. Very poor experience, lost of time and money, definitely not recommended.

Definitely worth doing. We paid 300 pesos per person on a boat of 8. It was easy enough to organise and we saw a few (not many) flamingos. The explanations were helpful (all in Spanish). There was a lot of travel time to and from but still a good way to spend 2 hours plus travel if you're coming from Merida.

Flamingos are weird and wonderful birds, and this boat tour was one of the best things I did in Yucatan. Getting up close to these incredible creatures is an experience not to be missed.

This was a fun and educational experience. It was a long boat ride to the flamingos but in the end it was worth it. We also got to swing into some fresh water ponds and navigate through a beautiful mangrove cove.
