Let me start by saying how wonderful Alex is as a host and a chef! It’s been a pleasure to be around him as he shares stories and daily culinary creations. A large breakfast is served daily in the courtyard. This really was a great way to socialize and be pampered! I think he really cares about his guests and it shows. I appreciate the daily room cleaning, refilling of the mini fridge too. It makes a big difference to know we are so well taken care. This is not so easy to find in México. I stayed in the Corazon Suite for weeks and enjoyed many hours relaxing on the large private terrace. On the hotel rooftop, the tequila was made available for all to enjoy. Many evenings were spent socializing with other guests, enjoying their travel stories. Alex went above and beyond for me to provide a most enjoyable vacation. He has provided a welcoming open space and I can’t wait to return to Hotel Julamis.

Alex runs this hotel and supplies an amazing breakfast with way too much sugar which is what he heaps on the women who stay there since he go out of his way to appear worldly, charming and knowing everything. Men may get treated with the scorn I received upon my initial encounter with him which I guess was because he thought I’d get in the way of him charming my female friend. He loudly scolded me like a small child for daring to refill my coffee leftover from our breakfast. That was after we were invited to have the run of the house and other female guests had helped them selves to coffee but apparently not ok for me. Even though my female friend paid for two people, he charged me as if I were a third person even though the second had left. He loudly calls out all Mexican businesses as incompetent; if only they did things the way they were done in Switzerland. Apparently as the largest importer of beef to Mexico and largest in other business categories, he was expert at how thing should be run Swiss style. If you don’t mind feeling like you’re inside some kind of slow walking psycho drama, this old mansion has its charms made lighter by unlimited beer in the fridge. The top deck is the best feature of this hotel where he supplies bottles of tequila that he is aging in barrels and allows you to sample them although he lied to me about this supposedly so I could not have any. Hold on to your hat for a fun, if not disturbing ride. Almost forgot the large smouldering cigar he kept next to the breakfast tables to challenge your nostrils during your breakfast. I told you he was boorish but maybe you’ll like that sort of odd challenge.

The hotel was great! Alex was amazing and provided great hospitality. Let me start from the top, our first day we arrived and he sat us down and went over everything. He provided a map that gave us instructions on how to get around the city. He marked off places that we may like based on the food that we told him we like liked. He provided breakfast everyday and asked us the day before what time we wanted to have breakfast, based on our availability. That was great because a few days we wanted to sleep in and some days we wanted to get up early and explore the city. His wife was amazing as well and we sat and talked to them for hours. I enjoyed their outlook on life and they were both personable, kind and provided great hospitality. Alex also asked what kind of things we wanted to do while there and he took the extra step and told us how to save money and he called a cab and made reservations for us based on the excursions we wanted to do. I definitely would recommend this place. There are several rooms available and they are wonderful people.

Amazing hotel with attentive owners. Free amazing breakfast and great view on the roof from the jacuzzi and hangout area. Highly recommend.

Outstanding service by Alex Rudin. We are coming back for New Year’s Eve and wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else. Very nice accommodations and a terrific location. His lovely architecturally designed breakfast concoctions were unique, yummy, and well received by others in the courtyard. All heads would turn when Alex started bringing out our beautiful dishes. A total treat every single morning. He even arranged for a tour guide to take us to some of the ruins and turned us on to several of the wonderful restaurants in Merida. And, BTW, Merida is a wonderful city to explore, with great museums, charming parks for people-watching, and the friendliest people who love sharing the history of their city.
