Great facilities don't make up for a poor welcome and gauche sexist behavior. While it's easy to see why people love the building, a good artist and a good host simply are not the same thing. Cons, then pros, then narrative below: Cons: --Rude sexist comment regarding my partner --Reception is actually necessary at a commercial lodging --No TV --Hurried check-in. --Cash, upon arrival --No drinking water provided --No parking, despite ample available space --Loudest night spent in Mexico at any price --The invitation for a drink with the host was inappropriately insistent --1,000 gigawatt street light outside thin curtains --Requested bank transfer upon reservation --Quoted price didn't include tax --Breakfast is a listed amenity on some sites, but only coffee is available. Pros: --Beautiful facility, clearly built by a legitimate artist. --Immaculate --Perfect shower --Great price When I made my reservation by phone, the owner, Mr. Ballesteros, wanted me to pay in advance via bank transfer. This seemed odd to me, so I played dumb, using my Spanish as an excuse. He made an exception to allow me to pay upon arrival in cash. The quoted price did not include tax. We established that no parking was available except for check-in. Since my truck is loaded for an open-ended road trip, I communicated my need to unload it before parking it on the street. There is no reception here. For us, that meant having to arrange our exact arrival time, which is challenging when you're driving through an unfamiliar place. We called when we were half an hour away and were told no one could let us in for an hour. So we drove and parked at the hotel and waited. The owner arrived. He was in a hurry to get to an orchid expo at the plaza, and let us know it at least three times. When I asked him to open the gate so I could unload my truck, he resisted, saying nothing ever happens in this neighborhood. I insisted, reminding him of his own words, but added that I'd be happy to cooperate however I had to to be able to secure the truck for the night. He turned around to look at my partner. I can't quote him, but I bet my life what he indicated was: "Does that include her?" I do not make this accusation lightly. After this point, there was no redemption for this man in my eyes. He assured me it was a joke, which didn't raise his stature at all. Only two of the other 10-20 rooms are occupied, but he put us in a room on the street. I asked for something interior, but he said there's no street noise here and there were only twin beds on the inside. We'd had a great day, so there was no energy left to argue or change hotels. We got settled in and took a couple of perfect showers in the immaculate and beautiful room and got settled in. I'd decided by then that I'd had too much of our host's company. When we were leaving for dinner, the owner was back. He invited us to a drink, which we declined. He insisted to the point of awkwardness that we stay, and I had to refuse more and more strongly to get him to stop. I understand there's a culture gap, but this ain't my first day in Mexico. His behavior is unusual by any standard. The bed was perfect. But not only was there ample street noise, there was also a powerful street light for which the curtains were no match. This place is artistically beautiful, but the host is ignorant of hospitality. Definitely not recommended.

Book with booking and when I arrived at the hotel they did not receive me because they were out of service. Leaving me without lodging.

Nice hotel in a good location. Beautiful roof terrace where you can enjoy the delicious coffee provided free of charge in the morning. The rooms were a bit damp and cold. The hotel looked deserted in the afternoon / evening, since no one from the hotel was on site. According to Coatepec residents, one should be careful in the evening / at night when walking through dark alleys. But we never felt uncomfortable. Señora Rosita was super nice and helpful. To recommend. We would love to come back.
