Mexico International Real Estate

When we made the decision to move to the Merida area we contacted Shawn at Mexico International for help in finding the perfect piece of property to build our forever dream home. Shawn used his expert knowledge to help us navigate the foreign process to make our purchase smooth and stress-free. He has continued to assist us after the purchase was finalized to find an amazing architect to build our dream home. I am a real estate broker in Portland Oregon so I know a good agent when I see one. I have purchased two homes with Mexico International and they were ethical, communicated timely, and went above and beyond for my transactions, both of which were uniquely complicated. We have bought and sold several houses with Mexico International. Colm Cooney is a terrific agent. When we were buying, he listened carefully to what we wanted and showed us several different houses, some that were finished and some that needed renovation. We learned a lot from that experience and bought our first home, a 200-year-old Spanish colonial that we renovated. When we sold with Mexico International, Colm advised us on how to properly present the house for showing and helped us set a price that was right for the market. He sold the first house we listed with him within three days! He always explained the contracts in detail to us and made himself available to answer emails and phone calls despite being very busy. When we placed a deposit on a property (earnest money) and when we paid for properties, we did not have to worry about how to make an international money transfer from the USA to Mexico. We simply transferred money to Mexico International’s bank in Denver, Colorado. From there, the company handled the distribution of the funds to the seller. When we sold, the money was transferred the day of closing to our bank in the USA. I would highly recommend Mexico International and Colm Cooney when looking to buy or sell in Mérida or anywhere in the Yucatán.

Mexico International repeatedly failed to advocate upon behalf of our interests. They consistently interpreted the purchasing agreement in the sellers’ interests. They failed to provide notice when the sellers’ failed to meet their obligations. They were complacent with the seller’s attempt to extort us for their own oversights. They provided a deeply flawed and clearly negligent home inspection that overlooked a dangerous gas leak among other issues, amounting to thousands of dollars. They imposed upon us a schedule that permitted the seller to abscond with items meant to convey with the house. And they placed the blame upon us for everything that went wrong rather than take responsibility for any of their actions, although we hired them to assist with the transaction. Mexico International was the least professional real estate company that we have dealt with in over a decade of real estate investing. We could not have been more disappointed with their service.
