Holiday Inn Merida

Showed up late at night after might flight only to find the hotel boarded up. Not communication to say it was closed. Since returning to US nobody had been able to contact local hotel management and corporate IHG has done next to nothing to address the situation

The hotel is pretty run down. Was there on a business trip but definitely look for another one ilwhen I come back next time. For 1750 Pesos a night the breakfast was not included. The first day it was another 180 pesos, the second day even 280 pesos. Don't ask me why the difference.

I went to the restaurant and enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There are many dishes tipical of Yucatan region. The waiters are very kind and helpful if case you need a special request.

Appreciate the early check in. Hotel is old but clean and well kept. The problem with 1980's hotels is that there aren't enough or not conveniently placed electric outlets through out the room. Wanted to have breakfast when arrived but the dinning hall was crowded and the acoustic noise was unbearable.

Several things about our stay at this holiday inn earned a one star review. The attention to detail was awful, every morning I had to call for or acquire my own coffee even though the rooms coffee pot was obviously used and even though they’d rinse it it still didn’t occur to them to replenish the coffee. They forgot wash rags each day and there was never enough towels, we’d have to call for them. These are rather minor but still annoying. There was a constant sewage smell. Toilet clogged once and when we called maintenance nobody came. A major complaint was when they didn’t get to our room tell 6:30pm to clean which we had to accommodate them, but when we returned had found they had thrown away my husband braces tray that was sitting on the desk. He called them and they said they were sorry but there was nothing they could do, that’s was a $300 item they tossed! And finally we ate at their restaurant our third night, a sampler tray of all the different meats. After getting thru some we concluded there was something wrong with it and returned it to the kitchen. The next day our entire family of four was sick, we had to accommodate the rest of our vacation to recover and but plenty of meds to combate the food poisoning. We’d spoken with management about it and they basically said that it was just our genes that couldn’t handle Mexican food... my husband is from Mexico. Would never stay there again.
