Pyramid in Querétaro State, Mexico Originally settled by the people of the Chupicuaro culture in 300 BCE, the site became a major centre under the Toltecs from 900 to 1200 CE.

Giant pyramid in the middle of town. Free and quick

Reopened recently thursdays to sundays 9 am to 2 pm. The museum remains closed. Free entry. Not permitted to climb the pyramid. Nice cactus garden to walk through to the pyramid. Beware the red ants on the ground closer to the pyramid, wear covered shoes. The exit is through the other gate. No parking available but one can park on streets nearby. Even better than the up close view is the distant view from the top of the colourful steps marked “ callejon calzada de los ancestros”, a short walk away from the pyramid.

My partner found this great landmark while searching online for something to do during our two months in Queretaro. We went the first time but it was closed, so we returned a week later when it re-opened. The hours are very limited - they close at 2pm, but the entry was free. When we went we were the ONLY ONES THERE! We had the whole park to ourselves asides from the workers working in the gardens. Unfortunately, the museum was closed and we were told it would remain closed for probably another month. Because of Covid-19, strict prevention protocols must be followed. Absolutely no outside food or beverages are allowed inside and you must have a face covering at ALL TIMES. We spent about 90 minutes wandering the grounds, taking photos, and reading the information provided. After your visit, I highly recommend walking over to the Callejon Calzada de Los Ancestros en route to the Monument to the Virgin of El Pueblito - about a 30 minute walk away. The neighborhood is safe and the views are INCREDIBLE (see my photos). Look up these places on Google Maps and follow the walking directions. Overall, it was a nice visit. I wish the museum had been open, but we can return another time once it reopens.
