El balcón de Asìs

El balcón de Asís provided one of the best coffee experiences I have ever had. We entered this small roadside village on our way to Yohualichan, and as we drive the air is suddenly filled with a wonderfully strong scent of coffee. In the middle of an otherwise empty ruin then stands a waiter next to a sign detailing various coffee alternatives. We, a coffee-starved family, feel that we HAVE to make a U-turn and go back to see what on earth this place is. After marvelling the view from the ruin balcony we enter a floor below which is near empty aside from an open kitchen, two tables and a coffee roasting setup. The friendly owner takes our orders and let's us sample his own coffee liqueur (sublime) and yolixpa (also fantastic), of which we later bought two bottles each. The owners family also provided two slices of the best cheesecake I have ever tasted, rich and freshly baked, and we enjoyed everything while gazing out over the wonderous mountain-sides of Cuetzalan. You won't find a better view anywhere. Or better fika, as we say in Sweden. Do yourselves a favour and visit this place if you ever find yourselves in the area.
