While work was being completed in our Oaxaca apartment, we stayed at El Rincon de San Agustin for two weeks. We had a wonderful two bedroom apartment that was fully furnished. We had our breakfasts on our balcony, where we could birdwatch and appreciate the beautiful countryside between bites. We were able to do our shopping in San Jose Etla or walk down to San Sebastian Etla along the river road for more organic options. We didn't have a car. The collectivos are a short walk from El Rincon. Amelia Cruz, the owner, is a wonderful person. She's also an excellent cook. Though we did most of our own cooking, we asked her to prepare two vegetarian comida for us when we had friends visiting.

Avoid at all costs. Lots of misbehaving dogs and dog poop all around the property. You could get a nice clean hotel room in the downtown of Oaxaca for the same price. Here you get a shabby room with plastic chair and moldy fridge. You will get charged extra fees for everything on top of that - from a cup of hot water to get your garbage picked up. The property is not gated and there are stray dogs entering the garden all the time. While i was there, there was a burglary in the room next door as well. Plus you need to walk about 15 minutes down a dirt road in order to get a colectivo or buy some basic stuff in a small mum-and-pop shop. Thanks, but no thanks.

Beautiful location, in the midst of nature, great for camping. Amalia and her staff are very kind, very helpful and welcoming. The dogs are very friendly and playful. Plus internet works perfectly, shower is very hot, bathroom very clean. Amalia is an English teacher and a dentist. I enjoyed her company and conversations with her. The San Augustin Etla Art Center is about 10 minutes by car or colectivo up the hill. Or a 30 minutes hike through the village following the river. Definetly a recommendation!
