Truly an experience we will never forget. Bulmaro's family are incredibly talented and humble artisan's. We are honored to have their work in our home. The detail is appreciated by everyone who sees it and the wool feels so good under your feet. Our encounter with this beautiful family was perfect in every way.

This is worth a day trip from Oaxaca. I took a taxi from my hotel in central Oaxaca that cost around 10 u.s. dollars. I was interested in purchasing a rug and had been told that this was a good place to shop. My expectations were exceeded. The proprietor who was also one of the designers of the rugs gave me a 40 minute demonstration of how the natural dyes are made and how the yarn is spun. He was very engaging and gave an excellent and informative presentation. His shop is on the way into the small village. It is just off the road and very easy to find. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

What a beautiful presentation of the artist and his family's work. Bulmaro explained where dyes come from and gives a quick demonstration. Bulmaro has given presentations in NY and Sante Fe and has a book written about his family's heritage as weavers. The studio is a bit off the main street, but worth the extra 10 minutes. Many of the other artist in the area are said to be imposters, offering rugs of lesser quality and dulling color. While I can't speak to that, I enjoyed touring the space and seeing the presentation. The rugs are extremely expensive, and while I was interested, figuring out how to carry a rug around for the rest of my trip, and the price (especially being in MX), was too much.

The hardest part is to choose a rug! All of them are so interesting and alive! The worst enemies here are your budget and the transportation's luggage limitation, which at the same time are somewhat related to each other. Every time I'm around, I try to get one, and not only rugs, but also purses, sandals, wallets, etc!

Don Bulmaro and his crew make the most beautifully woven rugs from scratch, even then dyes. His presentation on how he makes these rugs is very informative and interesting. The prices are not for the faint of heart but you'll understand why after you see for yourself the incredible amount of time and work that go into making these pieces of art that will last forever.
