Take the train bound for Ranau to the entrance of Mount Kinabalu in about 2 hours. If you don't have enough people, you won't be able to leave, so you need to have some time to spare. On the way back from Mt. Kinabalu, there is no bus stop nearby, so you will have to take a taxi or stop a large bus on the roadside.
