I feel compelled to leave a review. Our visit to 1231 tonight was basically fine, but at the same time there was a lot of room for improvement. It wasn't a negative experience (our smiley service saved the evening) but I wouldn't go back or recommend the restaurant to others. First some attention to the positive points; + Much for little! (€ 75 with 2 adults and 2 children) + Nice children's corner that didn't seem to bother anyone and where the children had fun. + Despite clear understaffing, good service (thank you young man with beard and bun, Marco if the name is right on the receipt. You really showed that you have a heart for the hospitality industry, with enormous perseverance.) + Newly renovated restaurant with nice chairs and tables. Unfortunately, due to the very neat appearance of the restaurant, the presentation of the food and texts on the website as “traditionally prepared burger”, the expectation of the food was higher than what we were served; * Very standard spare ribs (reminiscent of the pre-cooked ribs for the bbq from, for example, the AH) * Burgers made with thick and with absolutely no flavor. The burgers don't seem (of course I'm not sure) made by themselves and anything but traditional. I missed the greasy flavor that a fresh burger can really make. The bacon can and should be a bit crunchier. * slightly bland fries that can be fried a little longer. * fries sauce is supplied on the "plate" in bags. Really yes? A bit like being in a sports canteen. A pity, because despite the fact that you really get a lot of food for your money, there is more possible in terms of taste experience. Where there are real points for improvement are the staffing, their efficient working (division of tasks) and the details in the presentation; * There were cleaning items in several visible places that were not used. * A door to a back room (warehouse? Sometimes boxes of glasses were collected) was open all the time, with an ugly look at a ladder and other stuff. * A young lady who seemed to be training someone (not in company clothing) was mainly concerned with herself (checking appearance in mirror, telephone and even eating in sight). This seemed unprofessional, especially to others who were out of control. This really bothered me. * Restaurant telephone rings throughout the room, with another bell when the kitchen has something ready and another bell when someone is outside the ice cream parlor but there is no staff. Remarkable things that I do not want to label as negative but that I have not seen in a restaurant before; Apple sauce tubs with children's menu were from the AH, shelves on which the food was served from the Ikea. All in all I saw the good intentions of the owner (and Marco!) But it seems like there is no complete control over the situation and that is a shame and a shame. I hope it was a snapshot, but also that the owner / owners take another critical look at certain matters. It can only get better then. The “American Restaurant Concept” requires something more than just decor.
