Toko Medan

Went to Kampen for the 1st time and had no idea how big or small this place is (turned out to be pretty small) and yet there we found Toko Medan, a small "toko" that serves Indonesian food. It is mainly for take away only, has a table for 4 and very friendly owners. Do not expect 100% Indonesian taste as the owners are Dutch couple but he tries very well to be close to the Indonesian taste. We observe that this place is pretty popular among the local.

Very nice

Searched for a toko on vacation and ended up with this one. We have regularly bought food from toko's for more than 10 years, but have never eaten as disappointingly as here. Very nice woman but this is not Indonesian. The taste is flat, the atjar only sour. An absolute must!

On a vacation in Kampen we came across this Toko anex eatery by chance. We made a reservation through the website and were immediately warmly welcomed. It is a small, cozy Indian atmosphere with a friendly hostess anex kokkie who learned Indian cuisine from her mother-in-law. Dishes are pure and for some people may be shocked by omitting table salt, which is expressed much more by the herbs and spices, well-known in Indian cuisine.

I found it very disappointing. I ordered a nasi ramas with 3 meat dishes: 2 spicy and 1 seasoned. Everything was crammed into one bowl while they indicated on their site that the flavors are best served when the dishes are served separately. The quantities of meat were minimal with little taste. A half pot of sambal brought some outcome. The chicken satay was also tasteless and dry as was the saté sauce. What warmed peanut butter would have made better. For € 18 far too expensive.
