The inlet work was an important water-technical facility in the Dutch part of the NATO defense strategy from a period of around 20 years (Cold War) after the Second World War. The inlet work had to flood the hinterland in time in time of war in order to reduce the accessibility for the Communists. The inlet was restored in 2015 after being buried in the dike for many years. The inlet can always be viewed freely.
