De Ambelt Herfterlaan

From 2004 to 2010 I enjoyed teaching here. I hope I can see my mentors one more time (one day) to thank them for all the help, support and most importantly hope they have given me. What a gift this place was! Thanks!

From June 5, 1967, when I was 12 years old, I was at the Ambelt at school until July 11, 1972, and then stayed there at the boarding school during the week. It lay and it is now, as I see on maps, in a beautiful wooded and rural environment. Somehow I was embarrassed to be there at a special school and at the boarding school. On my first year of life in 1956 I had a brain membrane / cerebral inflammation, which caused me learning difficulties. In my infancy, I was about 2 years behind in my speech development. Due to, among other things, my mother's illness and my problem I had to go to a boarding school. First the Bladergroenschool with an excellent boarding school, but where I felt a lot of homesickness in far-away Amsterdam compared to Beilen, which meant that I could only be at home during school holidays. There in Amsterdam I went to school at the age of seven in 1962 to twelve in 1967. Because of the circumstances at the time, of myself and in the family I could not be optimally cared for, I was approximately 3 to 4 years old, as a toddler in the nursery department of: "Doorgangshuis in Groningen". I sometimes wonder how these kinds of problems are dealt with nowadays, is aid still as it was then, or has much improved since then. It is quite possible that over the years i.v.m. cuts has been marginalized. In any case: "De Ambelt" still exists, but I have no idea how things are going there nowadays.
