Dolmen D49 "Church without papists"

Nice big Hunebed. Though it is primarily a result of a recent restoration it is still quite nice to see. The hidden cave entrance is an additional treat.

This hunebed is not original. It is a reconstruction, using rocks from others that have been demolished. So it appears as we believe they were originally built. It's an especially interesting one just so you know what the others originally looked like.

This is a reconstructed monument in the sense that it was built recently based on a similar monument that once stood elsewhere. To me, this makes it much less interesting than most other original hunebeds.

On Thursday, January 28, my girlfriend and I first visited Hunebedden D51 and D50 in Noord-Sleen, then we also visited D49 and added a walk. In one way or another I continue to find dolmens very fascinating. The Archeology walking route is a short, but pleasant walk of 2.4 kilometers.
