The Good Companion

It's one thing to have mushy peas which immediately took this northern English boy back to Friday nights as a child, teen, and adult in Liverpool, or perfect oysters, but at difficult times for restaurants and hospitality, people delivering excellent food and service are to be treasured. Being able to celebrate a friend's new job with wonderful things to eat and drink, and looked after by kind, funny, and attentive staff is one of life's joys. Please make sure they can continue to be brilliant at what they do by following Covid instructions, and especially the wise-cracking, story-telling, utterly charming no-idea-where-her-accent-was-from waitress. We need restaurants. We need superb staff. They're so precious. They absolutely are The Good Companion.

Awesome restaurant, with superb fish. My English husband (who considers himself an expert in fish and chips) had the smoked haddock fish & chips, with a very delicious (and surprising) tarragon mayo accompaniment, and declared it outstanding. I was very happy with my grilled seabass with veggies -- all perfectly cooked. For dessert we shared the sampler of the three desserts (the Eton Mess was our favorite). This is a great local restaurant on the quiet end of Westerstraat, with great service. There are many tables outside for those who (like us) are being cautious during Covid. Definitely recommend!

Went to this place because found a happy hour: 1 EUR per oyster on Saturdays. It turned out to be 1.5 EUR without choice of the type of the sauce, but anyways they Were Perfect! The thing that disappointed was an overly expensive beer.

very very nice restaurant. Modern and very tasty high quality food. I like female power in the kitchen. We are happy to come back again😋😋...
