Appelo's Farm

Beautiful place, beautiful surroundings, nice hard working farmer and his wife. It is time for the milk to become more expensive. Due to Corona sanitary not used. Half a day later I made 5 stars out of 4. We are now on a small farm campsite in the Westerwold in Groningen. Everything in perfect order, neatly cut lawn without grass clippings and everything tidy. But of a crushing dullness. View of other couples in front of their camper. How we miss the horse that passed by and the cows, who came to look curious at night, the panoramic view, the farmer's wife who fed the calves with the bottle, the cheerful children of the farm and even the mess in the yard. And our dog is also homesick for the farm dog that came to play regularly.

Great if you are looking for a quiet campsite, and you do not value luxury. That is why we had chosen the campsite of Appelo's farm for the Whitsun weekend of 2019 at the Aa. You walk into the nature reserve within a kilometer, that's ideal! The grass was mowed (a bit coarse, we constantly walked mowed grass into the camper), and there were only two other campers, fine! The shower is also good hot. Warm welcome by the owners. I originally wanted to give four stars; but drop an asterisk anyway. The yard is very messy; to get to the plumbing you almost have to climb over the silage. There is also some broken glass / debris. With 'camping at the farmer' it doesn't have to be 'spik and span', but this is the other extreme. The cows are put out to pasture in the daytime during the summer, which is nice, but there are also a few in a dark, dirty looking stable all day. I cannot judge whether this is normal on a farm, but in view of the condition of the yard, I think this could be more pleasant for the animals. At the checkout we had to pay for 3 people (2 adults, 1 baby of 8 months), that was a bit disappointing and we actually never experienced before. There is also an additional environmental tax, which is probably included in the price at other campsites. Together this makes the campsite not cheap (but also not expensive). We have had a good Pentecost weekend, but I am not sure if we will return here, admit it; This is mainly due to the feeling that we also had to pay the full price for a baby. Without a baby and without value in luxury, looking for peace, you can look great here.

A campsite in a very beautiful location. Peaceful environment and beautiful nature. Many cycling and hiking trails nearby. Waking up in the morning by the birds, what more do you want. Friendly and welcoming received by the manager and his wife!

what is described on the site about the area is correct, the camping area is neat with a trampoline, playhouse and sand band. In order to get to the sanitary facilities, you have to cross a very dirty and untidy yard. the plumbing is in need of a makeover. the young calves are in a very dirty stable full of shit. the people who live and work there are very helpful, nice and friendly. There could be something very beautiful out of it. It is not expensive.
