Des Indes Lounge & Terrace

This restaurant is a joke. I stayed at the Hotel Des Indes for one night during my honeymoon, wanted something different/historical/cozy. Was informed during check-in the restaurant was opened until 10PM, the information on the website was the same. Went to the restaurant at 8:58 with no reservation and was informed that the restaurant was closed because the chef didn’t feel like taking more guests... There were plenty of tables available. Went to the front desk and was informed they couldn’t take more guests because the restaurant was full (I think that part got lost in translation). I can’t rate the food, but service couldn’t be worse - arrogant and careless.

We had the afternoon tea meal for 22.5 euro per person. The food itself was pretty underwhelming. The tea was very nice though I'm no expert on that topic. The atmosphere was definitely worth the cost for us: the fact you need to put a reservation in advance, the dining lounge decor, the service, all together make you feel like a bourgeois for an hour. The meal ended a bit sour as we waited half an hour to get the bill. We were offered a free drink on the house but we were delayed enough so couldn't take it.

The lunch was an absolute disgrace: having payed €19,50 for a salad with poultry I was expecting to get something really interesting. What I’ve got was something that looked and tasted like chicken slices from supermarket. But the most appalling thing was the service: apparently we arrived at the time when also the high tea was served. Because of that all the waiters were busy with serving tea, nobody even looked at us and I had to walk 3-4 times to the counters and to ask for a menu, for drinks and for cutlery. The manager (only man out there in a suit) started to scream at me, when I asked to be served for the third time: he waived with his arms around in total panic and yelled that he was extremely busy. My guests, that were not speaking Dutch, were in shock and asked me what has happened. We sat there and just could not believe that in a fancy place like this with such high prices something like that was really possible. I would like to thank the waitress, that came to us to apologize for the behavior of her colleague, but the experience I’ve had in this restaurant will make me never set a foot in there ever again...

Words are very unnecessary in this case. The food, the service, the interior - everything is just excellent. Had the chef’s menu and absolutely loved it!
