VIS Kazemat

This VIS casemate (Provisions Device Racks) was built in 1937. The bunker itself is largely built into the dike and was intended to protect the Moerdijk bridge with the built-in machine gun. A big job for that time, completely lost. The air watch tower on the bunker was built in 1953, just after the flood and served as an observation post to be able to observe enemy aircraft during the cold war. The tower was in use from 1952 to 1962. The tower was restored in 2012 and opened to the public during special days. The bunker has been open to the public since May 2019 during bunker day and monument day.
