Toren 'Het Paard'

Around 1600, Utrecht had an impressive city outer canal with thick defensive walls, towers and strongholds. In addition to these strongholds, there were also defense towers named after animals. One of them was the 'Het Paard' tower. In 2001, during work on the Nieuwe Gracht, the remains of this tower were excavated and then restored with the adjacent parts of the city wall. In addition to the Nieuwekade, these remains can also be viewed from the other side of the canal.
