A special place next to the General Cemetery, which has existed since the mid-19th century and will remain there according to Jewish custom. The place can be reached via a bridge. Since the early 20th century, hardly any Jewish people had lived in Bolsward. During the existence of the Jewish community (1786-1911), a number of Jewish families usually lived in and around Kerkstraat. From 1829 onwards, the municipal council of Bolsward allowed part of the General Cemetery to be used as a Jewish cemetery. In 1846, the Jewish Community had the highest number of members. Out of a population of 4,500, 132 were Jewish, but from 1880 there was a rapid decline. In 1911 the Jewish community of Bolsward was added to that of Sneek. In 1930 there was only one Jewish resident. The municipality (Sudwest Fryslan) maintains both Jewish cemeteries of Bolsward.
